About Me:: I am a Shaman blessed with the rich heritage of African, Seminole, and Cherokee. My elders were my first teachers. I grew up in a household where my Great-great Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Grandmother, and Mother were all under one roof. And to say things would get interesting around that environment would be a gross understatement. But, looking back, I'll tell you that I wouldn't have traded it for anything in this world--it was a true treasure!

There were five constant male influences as I was growing up--my Grandfather, two biological Uncles; one "adoptive" Uncle, and my cousin Peter Chatman--better known to the world of blues musicians as "Memphis Slim".

It was never lost on me the dynamics of growing up in such a household with these powerful male and female energies. And I chose the path of learning all I could from both sides, and to walk the path of balance.

My tribal/ceremonial name is 'Standing Eagle', I am now 57 years old, and am considered an "Elder". I've worn many "hats" on this Earth-walk--Student, Soldier and Combat Photojournalist; Spiritual Warrior, Teacher, Healer, Artist, and Shaman--and I'll offer my "Straight-Up", "Reality Therapy" approach to Life and Spirituality to any that ask.

From a Dream/Vision I had on Fri, Oct 7, 2005, I've been tasked with conducting five ceremonies world-wide for peace over the next year, starting with the Winter Solstice on ..he others will be on the Equinoxes and Solstices next year.

These ceremonies are for all of the people on the planet to participate in--yes even the organized religions if they are finally ready to step outside the boxes they are in, put all of their 'trumped up' differences aside, and work together as a collective human voice!

My father's people became Quakers (Society of Friends) waaaaaaay back in the beginning, in Wales. They came to the Port of Charles in The Carolinas fifty years before the Revolution. Being good Quakers, they found the slavery rampant in the Colonies aborrent and, since they believed this "new government" to be one founded on the idea that all beings belong to life - not to people - they became very active in the Underground Railroad. When the Confederacy seceded from the Union, the life of the entire family hung in the balance and they received word that they (and others like them) were to be arrested for sedition against the Confederacy. Every generation of my family has contained at least ONE "Amelia Grace" in some derivation. One of the most recent ones is my daughter's daughter, Emily Grace Howard.

Like you, I've been a lifelong seeker - finding the connections existing in all things.

My tribal name is Watches Clouds. My totemic animals are Elephant (North), Owl (East), Tiger (South) and Otter (West).

I see the many hats more like a set of ceremonial ritual items that includes bells and incense, owl feathers, sacred plants, the precious jewels of the dharma.

I am happy to be "your" Winter. My name comes from a quote by Camus: In the depth of Winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible Summer.

And I'm really working on this 'balance' stuff, finding myself very firmly wedged in a process of deep change that I find - alternately - wonderful and disturbing.

It's good to know that I have a loving and wonderful shaman in my family!!!
