Piper nigrum; producing organ black peppercorns, dried and crushed,  extraction by steam distillation, country of origin India.

Safety precautions and contraindications:  Non-toxic, non-sensitizing, irritant in high concentration due to rubefacient properties.  Use in moderation.

Indian Black Pepper is considered superior because it’s particularly rich in piperine, the compound responsible for the pepper sneeze.  Piperine stimulates the taste buds, triggering the pancreas to begin producing digestive enzymes. It is reported to tone the lining of the intestines.  5 to 10 drops of Black Pepper add to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil and massaged clock-wise over the stomach and colon area may help to stimulate digestion and improve the elimination transit time.

Black pepper is very helpful for arthritis and rheumatic disorders as is warming and analgesic and according to research the piperine reduces the inflammatory response often present in these conditions.  Mix 5 to 10 drops with 1 teaspoon carrier oil for a massage.  For a Bath mix 10 to 20 drops Black Pepper with a half cup of Dead Sea Salt and soak in warm water.

According to scientists at the Nicotine Research Laboratory in Durham, North Carolina, the craving for cigarettes may decrease  with the inhalation of Black Pepper essential oil.  Apply to a tissue and inhale as needed.

A team of Japanese researchers reported that sniffing Black Pepper oil for one minute helped improve the ability to swallow in more than 100 people who had suffered a stroke.  “Inhalation of Black Pepper oil…might benefit older post-stroke patients with dysphagia, regardless of their level of consciousness or physical or mantal status,” the researchers stated in the Journal of the American Geriatric Society.  Inhale 1 to 2 drops from a tissue as needed.

Due to the piperine, Black Pepper is thought to have anti-depressive and cognitive enhancing properties.  If studying you may want to diffuse a small amount of Black Pepper with some Peppermint to improve memory and prevent mental fatigue.  You can also put 1 drop of each on a tissue and inhale as needed.

Tea Tree

Melaleuca alternifolia; producing organ leaves; extracted by steam distillation, country of origin Australia.

Australian researchers have preformed many studies proving the efficacy of Tea Tree’s ability in fighting bacterial infections.  Tea Tree, unlike antibiotics, does not kill indiscriminately, but can identify and kill the destructive bacteria while leaving the friendly bacteria we need to stay healthy.  Tea Tree also stimulates the immune system to help you stay healthy.

As taught by Dr. Penoel, you can lick a drop of Tea Tree off your little finger for sore throat and upper respiratory problems, repeat as needed for two or three applications.  Unlike antibiotics, if the infection is caused by a virus, Tea Tree has been found to be antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal.  Most chronic illnesses stem from a weakened immune system and congestive toxemia.  These relate to problems with the digestive system.  With the Tea Tree lick, you are also disinfecting the digestive system.  Use with all chronic conditions whether respiratory, urinary, digestive, hormonal, skin, joints, or even psychological problems.

The oil may be used for infections that include colds, flu, and bronchitis, and sinusitis.

Non irritating to the skin, Tea Tree is a good disinfectant for insect or animal bites, cuts or scrapes.  Apply to the area of the bite or cut.  Helps to stop itching from mosquito bites.

Ylang Ylang helps emotionally blocked men to become less harsh towards themselves and others.  It awakens their feminine side, allowing access to their intuition and understanding.  If your man finds the fragrance to intense you can layer it with the less sweet essence of Neroli.  They can always begin by applying to the soles of the feet where it will absorb and still find its way to the heart and mind.  By awakening one’s awareness of joy and beauty to be found in life, it eases communication with others and allows us to speak and listen from the heart.

The sweet fragrance of Ylang Ylang has been shown to lower blood pressure and create more rhythmic breathing.  Effective in the bath and massage, you can apply to feet, heart area and the shoulders.  Layer with any of the other fragrances in the AromaStix Designer Collection that you feel intuitively drawn to.  Often when we have elevated blood pressure and rapid breathing it is because we are holding on to anger, rage and/or frustration in the body.  The liver is where we hold our anger so application over the liver and on the liver reflex points on the feet can help to release the anger in a positive way.

Ylang Ylang has also proven effective for PMS, especially when irritability before menstruation is an issue.  Apply over the ovaries on the lower back and on the foot reflex points.  Can be even more effective when layered with Neroli, Rose or Jasmine.  Due to the plant hormones present in the oil, it is also used in cosmetics to rejuvenate the skin.
